Flooring

Engineered vs Solid real wood flooring: solid wood floor is usually less stable than an engineered wood floor where moisture and expansion related to that moisture is concerned. Wood is natural material and it expands and contracts under the influence of climate changes. Solid wood flooring expands and contracts a lot more than the engineered wood. Engineered wood flooring is constructed to be dimensionally stable, while most solid wood floors are simply cut pieces of wood from a tree.

High traffic areas: in your home these could be the living room, hallways and stairways while busy offices and other public premises usually consist of mainly high traffic areas.

Underfloor heating
: there are different types from water-based to electric. As it is complete radiant heating source no dust is circulated. It is draft free and safe with no hot surfaces within reach of children.

Real wood flooring maintenance and care: keeping your real wood floor well maintained is very important. Most real wood flooring brands come with care and maintenace instructions, please read them carefully and keep a copy for reference. It is very inportant that the finish of your flooring is in good shape. If not, you should consider refinishing your floor so that you are able to maintain it properly. Basically you should hoover it regularly to keep dirt from grinding into the floor finish. Spillages should be wiped immediately with a damp (not wet) cloth. If your floor finish is in good shape, damp mopping could be applied. For best results use manifacturer recommended products and cleaning materials.

Finishing wood flooring: all our floors are pre-finished. The main reasons for finishing wood floors and any interior furniture are to embellish and protect it. Pre-finished and finished floors are easier to maintain.

Doors

Mortise and tenon versus dowelled doors – these terms refer to the joints used in door construction. In simple terms a mortise and tenon joint consists of a 'tongue', (the tenon) that slots into a hole (the mortise) cut in the mating piece of timber. Mortise-and-tenon (M&T) joinery is used for almost any project that has frame construction and needs to be as strong as possible, which makes it the preferred type of joinery for external doors.

Engineered and solid doors - solid doors are made of whole timber plunks while the engineered doors are constructed so as to provide greater stability than traditional construction methods.  The stiles and mid rails are constructed with pieces of timber that are glued together and then veneered over. This construction makes the doors stronger so that they are not prone to twisting or warping.

Firecheck doors - depending on their construction and thickness, they delay the spread of fire and smoke for certain period of time.

Sound proof doors - hollow-core interior doors, which are usually much cheaper, are poor sound blockers. Our engineered and solid hardwood doors do much better job at sound proving. However for best results, it is recommended that you seal the gaps around the door with wheather strips which not only will provide better sound barrier but will quite effectively save energy and will make your home green friendly.

Door finish - there are two main aims to door finishing and they are to embellish and to protect your wood doors. To avoid damage to wood you should finish your doors immediately after fitting. You could choose to paint, varnish or stain your door.
