Here are the dfferences between engineered real wood and solid real wood flooring:

Engineered Wood Flooring Solid Wood Flooring
Solid wood floor is usually less stable than an engineered wood floor where moisture and expansion related to that moisture is concerned. Wood is natural material and it expands and contracts under the influence of climate changes. Solid wood flooring expands and contracts a lot more than the engineered wood. Engineered wood flooring is constructed to be dimensionally stable, while most solid wood floors are simply cut pieces of wood from a tree.

This difference in structure between solid and engineered real wood flooring determines a completely different set of uses and installation methods for each type. For example, fitting of solid wood flooring is not sutable in areas where moisture is present such as cellars, bathrooms, etc and it cannot be used with underfloor heating.
